Luisia tristis (G.Forst.) Hook.f. is a monopodial epiphyte with terete leaves, found growing in the lowland and montane forests of Malesia, tropical Asia, Australia, New Caledonia, and Samoa (0–1,700 m). This species initially grows erect but will eventually droop under its own weight. The very short inflorescences are produced apically along the continuously growing stem with 8–10 flowers, of which 2–3 are open at the same time.
